Redditch Library project progressing well.
Work to revamp Redditch Library in Worcesterhsire is progressing well.
The refurbishment project was previously planned to be completed in Spring 2010 but following a review of the phasing of building works this has now been brought forward, with the new projected completion being late January/ early February 2010.
The refurbishment of the library is now underway with work starting on the ground floor. The library was closed to the public in order to condense and re-organise services onto the two upper floors so that building works on the ground floor could commence, but is it now open to the public. There will be other short closure periods during the porject.
Once the refurbishment is complete new features will include a new Quick Pick section, an exhibition, meeting and gallery area, a glass lift connecting all public floors, four new public toilets, a new area for teenagers, a redesigned children’s library and a relax and read area.
The new library has been designed by the county council's in-house property services team, with the main contractor for the refurbishment works being Speller Metcalfe Ltd from Malvern. The work involves the expansion and refreshing of the public spaces within the current building, resulting in a brighter, more attractive public library.
Progress of the refurbishment can be followed online by visiting the Redditch Library photo album on Flickr.
