Detailed description:
Ilfracombe Library will reopen with a new look on Tuesday 1st June 2010. The library will be transformed into a bright, warm, modern building, balancing formal and informal areas, with facilities for all.
There will be movable shelving allowing more flexible use of the space for events, improved study space, a dedicated area for teenagers including IT, new furniture for children, comfy seats, public access computers, wi-fi, laptop points, colour photocopying and simple-to-use self-service facilities.
The carpet and ceiling are being replaced, new lighting installed and the walls painted. The traditional counter will be replaced by a new enquiry point which is designed to allow a more personal interaction with the customer. Staff levels are being maintained in order to offer a better service on the 'shop floor', assisting with book selection and so forth.
Working with local disability campaigning and empowerment charity Living Options, the library will have clearer signage and a disabled-friendly layout.
